The other day my friend showed me this video for Falling Whistles, and it really touched me. I hope to spread the awareness of the story of Congo and its struggle for peace. Please take a moment today to watch this video and go to their website. We get so caught up in our own woes and troubles that we forget to look at the big picture. I have been anxious to post this on my blog since I first saw it because I just want to share the knowledge of something I knew nothing about before watching this video.
Falling Whistles is a small window into our world's largest war.
Over a year ago, laying in Titu Prison, 5 boy-prisoners spoke of the whistleblowers.
Abducted in Congo and too small to carry a gun, boys were given merely a whistle and sent to the front lines of battle.
The sound of their whistles calling together was meant to frighten the enemy away. Failing that, their sole duty was to receive the bullets with their bodies.
With falling whistles, their only choice was to feign death, or face it.
The world is changed by those who speak up. Whistleblowers. Rarely understood in their time, history looks back and calls them courageous.
Around the world, the sound of the whistle means stop. Pay attention. Speak up and say the same.
Make their weapon your voice and be a whistleblower for peace.
I escaped to my mini-vacation spot here in Colorado... Fort Collins. Its far enough away that I feel far away from home and my cares and worries. I was thinking about all the times I have felt trapped in my life. Ever since I can remember I always felt trapped because I didn't have a car, or I wasn't old enough to leave on my own, or I was trapped in a friendship or a relationship. I finally feel like all the strings have been cut and I am free to fly. I finally feel like I am at a time in my life where I am completely free. I have nothing holding me back, and I just want to run ... across the world. Fly around this planet to every corner that I can, while I can.
I think you should always have a place you can escape to that you claim yours. For me, in Colorado that place is Fort Collins where I leave all of my cares and worries behind and just enjoy life with my friends. I think everyone should make a point, wherever you are, to find a place that is yours that you can escape to. And make sure to spoil yourself while your there and make it a point to not punish yourself for leaving. Everyone deserves an escape. I think its a vital part of wellbeing.

I love love love these girls! They make the perfect escape soundtrack.
A perfect day so far. I had the day off, so I really really enjoyed it- especially after this crazy week. I got a massage, bought some pretty lipsticks, got Starbucks in a "for here" cup, sat down to really enjoy it, and took my little ferocious looking puppy on a walk. Now, I am off to a Christmas Party. I swear to you that my Starbucks was so much better than it is in their paper cups. You all should try that sometime, plus you get more sprinkles! I am so excited to wear my new lipstick tonight.

"To me, it's really so simple, that life should be lived on the edge. You have to exercise rebellion. To refuse to tape yourself to the rules, to refuse your own success, to refuse to repeat yourself, to see every day, every year, every idea as a true challenge. Then you will live your life on the tightrope." -Phillope Pettit
Whenever anyone stays over at my place, you get treated to waffles in the morning. Its kindof my thing. I adore chocolate chip waffles and my belgian waffle maker. I've had a bad week, so I've done alot of indulging. The calories don't count if you deserve it.
I learned 2 new things about myself this week. (I feel like Samantha Who? trying to discover myself again). 1- I discovered that I can be very feisty when provoked. 2- I discovered that all is forgiven with a box of chocolates, and trust me I was on my way to no forgiveness. I am glad that these delicious chocolates opened up my eyes to remind me that you should always forgive and forget.
As if to make my graduation that much sweeter, school decided to push me to my limits. Being done with school will be the sweetest relief ever. After a stressful day, I wanted to make some comfort food... I decided on Mini-Burgers and Cheddar-Ranch Bread. For dessert I made some microwave S'mores.
Burger Recipe: Mix hamburger meat with 1 egg, parsley, garlic, 1 tbsp olive oil, and basil. I made these in a skillet because I am afraid of the barbecue. Sprinkle with shredded muenster cheese and shredded cheddar.
